Sometimes some new words denotes the invention of new things while sometimes these are just another name of some another common device. The word computer touch pad may mean two different things. It may either mean the keypad that works as it receives a touch sensation or it may be some another kind of pad that works through touch. Whatever it is, to an extent both the things are similar and means the same thing.

The latest kind of touch pads are actually used in the laptops as an input device. These devices, computer touch pads are regarded as a substitute for the mouse; therefore the basic functions that are performed by it are just the same with the mouse. To move the cursor, to click on an icon or to pick up the words; everything are done by these computer touch pads.

Based on the design and size of the laptop and its screen the size of the touch pad varies. Some are square in size while some are like a circle. These are designed to operate with a touch, but that touch can not be of anything like a stick or the tip of a pencil. In fact that touch should be of the fingertips. These are credited with a sensing ability which can sense the touch of the fingers only. These capacitive sensors are spread along the pad in a horizontal and vertical design so that a touch in any part of the pad can work the same. These are so very sensitive that the user may not be able to work if he is wearing gloves. Therefore the material of the gloves should also be the touch pad friendly to perform well. That is nothing; you can even face problem with your fingers too. The fingers too sometimes fail to make the cursor move and the reason behind this may be a moist, wet or sweaty finger.

For a smooth and swift functioning of the computer touch pads, they should be handled with care. A rough or hard touch on the pads may harm it as this is very fragile and soft in nature. For a quick result these soft and swift touch of the finger tips can work very fast and better than the mouse.

The use of the computer touch pads is even not limited to the laptops only. These are now used in the iPods, in the Discmans and in the creative labs for playing MP3s. with the wide spread use of the computer touch pads these are now becoming very popular and attractive device among people. With easy to handle features, everyone can have their fingers scrolling on the pad. Usually it is seen that the beginners feels a kind of trouble while holding the mouse and make it scroll which is not so in the touch pads.
